Stressed out New Yorkers need a good laugh, and this weekend Doug Collins, the man "with the most contagious laugh in the world," will be in New York for the launch of the breakthrough film on laughter — LAUGHOLOGY — during the Great Union Square Laugh-In this Saturday, September 25th from 4 to 6 p.m.

Also meet LAUGHOLOGY director Albert Nerenberg, now a full-time Laughologist for CBC Radio and the Montreal Gazette. Nerenberg was originally a skeptic of the phenomenon. "I didn't believe that there was really something new here until I immersed myself in it. It completely changed my life."

Nerenberg's documentary also reveals several little known laughter phenomena including: the growing health trend of Laughter Yoga; new social events begun in Canada called Laughter Parties where people get together just to laugh themselves silly; and the months-long 1962 "Laughing Epidemic" in Tanzania in which tens of thousands of people began laughing for no apparent reason.

LAUGHOLOGY also explores the new scientific evidence supporting the health benefits of laughter, fighting stress and increasing immunity. Simple laughter could be helpful in massively reducing health care costs, says director Albert Nerenberg: "There's some evidence laughter is a natural anti-depressant and a hedge against heart disease. But it has to be done regularly. That's why the Laughter Movement is such an important breakthrough."
