Hey Margus, how are you doing yourself?
Sorry it took some time for me to respond to your rather long message. And to make it even more disappointing: I have not actually read most of it. I'm a bit of a fucker like that, but for good reason. The last few weeks I have had little less than one day off per week, which is the only day when I can allow myself to refrain from looking at a screen...
If you really want me to give you proper feedback on your thoughts, try to spell them out as clearly as you can - and EMAIL it to me. The English doesn't have to be perfect but I would appreciate it if you do not refrain from using sentences, comma's and other things that have been invented to make reader's life's more comfortable.
In Facebook stuff gets old really quick, in my mailbox emails can linger for weeks. Then, when I've got a few days off, I will go through your idea more thoroughly and provide (hopefully) some high-quality feedback.
As for now, I think I can give you some hints as to where to look:
- Look at how Wikileaks do it. They publish their secret data, in encrypted form, through torrents and push their public dat a regularly using rsync over SSH.
- Look at initiatives for SSL tunneling project like the Dutch project Respect my Privacy, it's started by some friends of mine: http://www.respectmyprivacy.net/
- A trust based friend-chain system is something I've studied quite extensively. You should use something like coupled reputation: if I invite my friend and my friend turns out to be a bastard, this reflects on my reputation and hence on that of my friends. This might eventually lead to me not being able to invite other people or in me being kicked off of the network. From this point on it is up to you to figure out how to let a large decentralized community judge about reputation. I do think that a site like stackoverflow.com has solved some of the issues regarding public reputation in a large community base.
- When it comes to server security: use an OS that supports strong (AES256 or AES512) encryption of all harddisk data, including swap. Now you put the key, well encrypted, on a hardware-secured USB stick (but use software encryption as well). Make sure that NOBODY else knows the key OR (better) make sure it is encrypted in such a way that it requires the coorporation of at most two persons of a group of persons that is in the same legal domain. (If you get prosecuted, you don't have to give out the secret - but some other person might be legally forced to do so.)
Anyways, I'll be waiting your email soon if you're really serious about all of this. :)
Ciao,
Mathijs

How have you been? How is the project going?
I also start to finalize the plan for my plan i had.. just one final step - security - and is there a way to by pass it.
I was wondering is there any possible fictional ideas out for "trust based it system" for forum/portal based webiste that is fast and can support many people if needed.. i do not know exactly what i mean under that but it would need to be something that no one owns in the end and cant be taken off-line alone. Including me. I would share the passwords / access among many people.. to work some how opposite of the direction that usually people do if they want to make things secure. I had some thoughts on lsd but it weared off before i was able to but it on paper + i do not have so much knowledge of to understand the whole nett. I know it cant go these ways to the end as it gos right now.. something must be changed in internet.
Website should be a way that it cat be taked off-line easily by copyright people (as its used to freedom of speech .. but i have one other trick also to get copyright people off the back, i think) or by people who are pissed off (from religion to politics and some cororations maybe).
In future if everyone has fast connection then yes - i think it can be something like p2p related thing on java or something that loads in browser automatically but first i do not have a lot of people so it would be to slow. Site structure i think as of now is also over complicated so thats why i would want to re look again once all my thoughts and as from someone i trust:)
my project will also bring sooner or later many people who want to take it off... there will be censoring system but it would be emotion based - other hard task some linguistic people here is trying to work
So one ideas i was thinking was some automated system that will back up the site/base daily to 3-5 servers if needed, mirroring it and if something happens then i can just change the domain settings to point to new website. Loss would be maximum half a day data not more.
As i told, i am bad to put my ideas on text but the idea of site would also be to support trust and prove that over the time... even if you get beaten up - the trust will win. All the locks will be broken anyway sooner or later.. so i would try to remove as many lock as possible. People should not be afraid that someone is seeing what they say - privacy on this sense would not be needed, its a fking Internet, the one who owns the pipes will see everything anyway.
First members on my site would be politicians and many other bigger names... but just... how to start it.. what are the possibilities ? What ways is there to remove as many locks as possible and same time keep the nice website experience, no real data loss ?
One extra idea is that people can get trough my automated email server a private email that thye can use for registering (they send email to prvatemailtheylike@myserver.com and this server automatically will set up a forwarder & email box and will send email to their original box - i will use google for that as i think gmail servers will be less likely hacked. This is would be that if site gets hacked and emails revealed - then there would not be so much harm as hacker only gets the fake email addresses.
some confusing and badly explained points -if you have time to skype to clarify and maybe give me some realistic vision is it possible or how it would more likely work/not work.. then let me know when ur only :)
