Dear NORML Supporters,

At the busiest and most productive time in the cannabis law reform movement's history, there has never been a better time to attend a national NORML conference!

The 39th annual national NORML conference will be held September 9-11, 2010 at the historic landmark Governor Hotel in downtown Portland, Oregon.

This year's annual conference is expected to be a quick sell-out because there are a limited number of rooms at the host hotel and conference registrations available than previous national conferences in San Francisco, Berkeley and Los Angeles.

The conference registration, list of speakers and agenda will not be released for a few weeks, but if you really want to attend this year's conference in Portland I suggest doing the two following items ASAP:

* Save the dates on your calendar

* Reserve your room(s) at the beautiful and centrally located Governor Hotel (all rooms have balconies and allow smoking)

NORML has negotiated excellent room rates at this historic registry hotel:

* Superior Room ($147/night)

* Deluxe Double or King Size bed ($157/night)

* Junior Parlor Suite ($166/night)

Reserve your room right now for NORML 2010 in Portland by calling 503-241-2109, and please indicate 'NORML 2010 Annual Conference' to receive the discount.

Procrastination will not pay! If you snooze, you lose! First come, first served!

Thanks again for all your help and support reforming America's antiquated cannabis laws, and NORML's staff and I look forward to seeing longtime supporters, along with new ones, at the organization's 39th annual national conference in beautiful, progressive and cannabis-friendly Portland, Oregon this September.*

Kind regards!

DENVER—Outside a Denver theater yesterday, more than 100 Colorado medical marijuana advocates, attorneys, and patients gathered to greet President Barack Obama with a call to end to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s recent raids on Colorado medical marijuana caregivers.

In town at the Fillmore Theater on Colfax Avenue, Obama visited to raise campaign funds for U.S. Senator Michael Bennet where Obama faced outrage over the DEA’s raid of a Highlands Ranch grow operation. “While we’ll be the first to concede that the grower may have been in violation of local zoning rules, we question the federal government’s armored raid in this case,” said Jessica Corry, a Denver attorney and board member of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws’ Women’s Alliance. “We encourage President Obama to stand by his earlier commitment to keeping the federal government out of what should be a state-level debate over the proper regulation of state mandated constitutional rights for medical marijuana patients and their caregivers.”

In 2000, 54 percent of Colorado voters supported Amendment 20, a constitutional amendment authorizing the legal use and growing of medical marijuana for patients suffering from approved medical conditions. Late last week, the DEA raided a Highlands Ranch medical marijuana grower’s home, alleging the man had violated federal law. The move sent shockwaves through the Colorado medical marijuana community in the aftermath of an October decree by U.S. Attorney Eric Holder proclaiming that the federal government would no longer enforce federal marijuana prohibition at the expense of state-authorized medical marijuana rights.

Also attending Thursday’s rally were other national members of the NORML Women’s alliance. “Given that medical marijuana was just passed in our state, we are very concerned that the DEA’s recent actions here may scare legitimate patients in New Jersey from seeking access to their legally authorized medicine,” said New Jersey attorney Anne Davis, and fellow alliance board member Delia Pratico.
