Do you pick your men to suit you?
- I had different kinds of men. With those who I think I loved, I had a feeling of inner comfort. And full confidence in the person. If I had even one question mark in my head, I would leave without second thought. What’s not important for me in a man for sure – it’s his appearance. Beautiful men are usually desublimated. A man I can fall for – smart, independent, caring. Even the sex is not the most important thing in a relationship. It’s being overrated right now. When girls in the company starting to discuss: he has one like that, and I don’t like it with him… (wrinkles). It’s not for me. I don’t need amazing sex at first glance, that everything is perfect right away. Maybe it sounds strange, considering my image, and the fact I started my sexual life very early.
How early?
- Age of 13. But at 14 I already worked like a grown up, so it’s all relative. The most important in a person is that it’s simple and interesting to communicate with him. Light flirt. A game, but a real one.
Is there a person like that in your life currently?
- Yes. It’s too early to talk about something serious yet. We’ve been together for only 2 months. But he already communicates a lot with my daughter. She asks me to dial his number and speaks to him for hours.
Who is he?
- A good friend. An honest and very kind person. But I’m not ready for official announcements yet. You know, I realized lately that you can tell anything. And the words “I love you” can mean absolutely nothing. Especially when they’re being said 2 months after the first meeting (smiles). Love is that kind of thing – you have to live with it first. I never been married, although I was proposed, not only by Parviz. That tell a lot. I’ll better wait and make sure: yes, this is the one with whom I’ll live all of my life. I’ll better marry at the age of 50, but only once. But to be honest, I can’t even imagine myself in a wedding dress, and that’s what real girls dream about from young age (laughs).
What’s attracting men in you?
- They imbued with me, I guess. A woman should make a man admire her. A woman should be perfection – that’s her mission in this world.
Perfect woman – what she’s like?
- Smart, wise. Like a snake, in a good term. Can turn attention to herself and knows when it’s better to be quite. What I do not understand, is the hysterical women. What’s the use in being hysterical? It’s always possible to get along. And also, that’s might sound arrogant, but I haven’t met a man who was bored with me. I’m a crazy person, a hurricane. You can’t step across me. When men gets that kind of resistance, they want to tame, perhaps, to hold all this drive in their hands. I’m not a sheep, not one of the glamorous dolls who fill our show-business. I can beat any man, although I can be soft and diplomatic.
Can you remember your craziest action?
- Being 8 months pregnant, I went to USA for video-shooting. They wouldn’t let me go on the plane! But I’ve decided that this will be fun for the baby as well: will fly, visit a new country… (laughs)
How did Parviz react?
- He was shocked, of course. But he knew that it’s useless to say “no” to me.
And some say that mothers have strong self-survival instinct…
- Of course I’m not the madcap I was at sixteen. But I can’t let down my personality as well.
What’s a romantic act for you?
- To jump with a parachute and make love on the process. If the parachute won’t open, at least you’ll get some pleasure on the way! (laughs).
You’re speaking from experience?
- No, but it’s a good idea, gotta do it someday.
Why did you decide to start a solo-career?
- I just grew up from the girly image and felt that I can do everything on my own. I work without a producer, I already gathered a new crew, recorded few demos, soon I’m going to the US to make an album. It’ll be a powerful project in the genre of “sex-rock” – I made that up. (smiles). I plan to work for the western market, because in our country there’s simply no show-business. There are girls for buyers and boys for something incomprehensible. There’s no creativity in here. That’s way some “sparklings” are doing so well – blondes look-alikes with the same tan. “Singing panties”, how I call them. A lot of hypocrisy, very little creativity. That’s why we’re far from America a million years.
And you’ll make it?
- I have all the abilities for that.
It feels like you have a little fire engine inside of you. How do you get enough energy for all this?
- I can sleep 2-3 hours a day – and I feel good.

“I can beat any man”
The media was filled with rumors about ex-soloist of t.A.T.u., Yulia Volkova and her significant other Parviz Yasinov broke up. Moreover, those rumors claims that the businessman is taking from Yulia their kid. The singer clarified what’s true and what’s not in an exclusive interview for “OK!”
She’s miniature in person. It’s hard to understand how this small body can deal with so much energy – Yulia speaks fast, confidently and very emotionally. “She’s rushing into living and feeling” – that’s about her. “Not a minute of rest”, as well. You feel like a slow turtle when you’re around her. In the rusty voice, sometimes appear cold metallic notes, and you realize that no one can do harm to that woman. After she suggested to refer casually to each other, she tells us that after the interview she’ll go to her friends to play “Mafia”. “I always win. If I play for the mafia – the mafia wins. If I play for civilians – they win”. And what about the real life?
Is it true you and Parviz broke up?
- Yes, three months ago.
Who initiated this?
- There was no initiator. We just realized in certain point, that our feelings had burned out and there’s no reason for us to be together. I don’t like wars, so as he. Besides, we have a child, whom Parviz adores. And our break-up… You see, this is life. Some people break up after a month. Some after twenty years. We lived together 3.5 years, and than the love ended. Who could foreseen it? No one. We broke up agreeably, without fighting and scandals, that were described in the press.
And no one takes you kid away?
- That’s a total nonsense, why should we split the kid? How can you manipulate with a child anyway?!
That’s not so rare these days.
- I don’t understand this. First, I think that a real man can’t take a kid away from a mother. Second, I won’t allow to anyone to take my kids. These are my kids! Me and Parviz are in great relationship. I don’t have even one dark thought or bad memory from the time we spent together. If Parviz will need my help I’d stand by him like a rock. He’s a very good person. But we’re not sharing our lives anymore. And besides, why should Parviz take a child from a mother like me? (laughs). I can do for my son much more than any man.
And what kind of mother are you?
- On one side, I love to spoil, buy presents, take them to the circus and amusement parks… But on the other – I’m not the person who’ll fill all his children’s caprices. I think a kid should have education, first of all, and an ambitions to do something with their life. I understand the American billionaires who send their children to work at Mc’donalds. That’s the right thing to do. To survive, you’ve got to learn to achieve your goals independently, not by the help of parents, husband, rich uncle or other benefactors. I try to be a friend for my children. I have this relationship with my own parents: they know everything about me, the good and the bad. I ask for their advice, knowing they’ll be on my side anyway. They can warn me from something, but they’ll never judge me.
Do you spend a lot of time with your children?
- I live with them. I see them in the morning, and in the evening, when I’m coming home, they surround me and shout: “Mommy! Mommy!”. Of course, sometimes I depart for concert tours, and then the children are taken care of by nannies and my parents, who love them dearly.
I have no idea what’s going on in the head of men who start to split the children, especially through the court. What people will grow up from this? The most important things are created in the childhood. If there was none, it causes problems.
Parviz is an Eastern man. Did you have to consider this?
- We didn’t marry, and I didn’t convert to Islam. Of course, he has his own vision about how a woman and a family have to operate. And I never fit in those standards, like in any others, actually. But he never demanded anything from me. He could not to agree with me when I went touring while being pregnant, but never forbid anything. He’s not a tyrant.
Do you realize that’s you’re a mother for 2 kids? Did you plan giving birth to them?
- I live in the present, and I don’t know what will bring tomorrow. And I live fully. I can go to the casino and loose all my money, because I know: I’ll earn more. I dreamt, perhaps, only about my career. And not just dreamt, I built it rationally. First music school, than “Neposedy”, and the school for popular and jazz music. I remember myself imagining that I’ll appear on TV. And when me and Lenka held hands and watched ourselves on TV for the first time, I could hardly believe that it’s me on the screen. On one hand. When you start to earn this kind of money in such a young age – It’s a good stimulation. On the other – in brings the adult problems, that our siblings became familiar with only a decade later. We got to know these problems when we were teenagers. When I found out that I’m pregnant at the age of 18, I wasn’t shocked, nor my parents. I was an adult already. Gave birth to the second when I was 23. And both these times weren’t a coincidence. The delivery was easy both times, no Caesarian: Vika – for 5 hours. Samir – 6. I had some complicated moments with Vika, but with Samir I didn’t feel any discomfort. And after the delivery I didn’t have to loose weight. I want to have more kids – a boy and a girl. I have a dream, to have a lot of children, and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren… And that we’ll gather together around one table.
And what about “sex, drugs and rock-n-roll”?
- Who knows, maybe my children will grow up to be so cool that we’ll turn everything on together! (laughing). The thing is that family is more than creativity to me. To be exact, I live on 2 planets. First – my music, the other – my beloved people: children, mother and father, my friends.
Your men shared your desire for family?
- To be honest, I never paid too much attention to mans’ thought or desires. (smiles). He can think one thing today, and something else tomorrow, what’s important, is what YOU want. I’m a self-sufficient girl and I’m not used to depend on men. And I gave birth for my own good. Maybe It’s because I feel the great support of my parents, but it’s not only because of that. I don’t like the idea of being depended on a man. I couldn’t just marry with some rich man and do nothing. I love to work, I need drive in my life, and in a relationship, otherwise I get bored and leave.
The kids doesn’t ask you “why don’t you live with dad?”
- Viktoria asks me different kind of questions. Lately she asked: “Mom, will I have breasts like yours?” She wants to be similar to me in general: she plans to have black hair when she’ll get older, and have a tattoo… Samir is still young, he’s not asking questions yet, but I think in the future it won’t make a problem.
And how do they treat each other?
- They are very different, but adore each other! Genetics is such an amazing thing. Vika is bright, like me – by appearance, and by character, like a ram, can break through a wall. And Samir is a polite boy, like his dad. Very careful. He won’t touch any object before he’s sure it’s safe.
Don’t you think that looking at you, your daughter will grow up with the feeling that men is not the most important thing in life, and that it’s easy to live without them?
- I don’t think that men aren’t important. I just was brought up in a certain way, I just can’t sit at home and cook soups. And even if a woman gets married for the money – so take that money and get education! Love and dependence have nothing in common. You can need love and still be an independent, self-sufficient woman. I realize that I have a lot of male features in my character. Once I even told my mom that with a personality like mine, I should be born as a boy. I can be harsh with people, put an end to a relationship very strictly. And I want my children to be able to stand be themselves as well.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
Dear t.A.T.u. fans,
You haven’t heard from us in a while and before 2010 we wanted to catch up with you once again, also because there are indeed very current news concerning t.A.T.u.’s international album release “Waste Management” as you know.
But before we’ll present you this information, let’s shortly summarize what we have learned about the girls’ solo careers in the last couple of months.
--- Yulia ---
Because Yulia decided to work with a completely new team and leave t.A.T.u.’s management in terms of her own solo project in early 2009, we know only very little about her progress. It was confirmed by different sources and herself that she has already recorded some demos for her possible upcoming album which is supposed to include Russian and English tracks. It is not known with whom she has worked together and when she will be able or willing to inform the public.
Yulia’s plan to move to Los Angeles for good didn’t quite work out. Since August she has been back in Moscow. One reason was that she wanted to host a TV show there, but even the yellow press in Russia doesn’t seem to have a clue if this project will be pulled through or not.
Yulis doesn’t have an own official internet presence yet. All profiles on social networks including twitter are fake.
But from Lena we know that Yulia is doing fine.
--- Lena ---
Lena stayed with t.A.T.u.’s management and band. Working together as a team, Lena, her producer Boris Renski, the band members Domen Vajevec, Steve Wilson, Troy MacCubbin and muscial director Sven Martin have already spent many weeks this year in Sven’s small home studio in North Hollywood to write and record some songs for her album. Lena will fly back to celebrate Christmas at home and return to L.A. in January. She said, they don’t want to rush things. There haven’t been any serious hints yet that promised to disclose any information about her songs and image. But we do know that her style will be different from t.A.T.u.’s, rather rock than pop and only in English. The musicians seem to be having more influence now than in times they have been working for t.A.T.u., even when they had been independent.
Recently Lena visited a chat to briefly talk to fans of Cherrytree Records, the record company from Martin Kierszenbaum who has produced and written songs for t.A.T.u. in 2003 and 2005. Kierszenbaum has some very popular and influential acts such as Lady GaGa, La Roux and Tokio Hotel under contract. This week Lena will be meeting Kierszenbaum and since he is a busy man one can easily guess that they won’t be simply sharing some memories.
You can visit her official website here (also to see few new and rare photo sessions) and find links to other networks, too: http://lena-katina.com
--- Lena & Yulia ---
This summer some rumours aroused that Lena and Yulia might not talk to each other anymore. But several occasions showed that they are still good friends despite the fact that they aren’t really working together any longer. In autumn they had a small radio chat with one of Russia’s most famous singers Alla Pugacheva and on Lena’s birthday Yulia surprised the birthday girl with an emotional alteration of Zemfira’s lyrics which she sang to her. Lena talked about Yulia tenderly when she met a few fans last month. Furthermore, Lena confirmed that she would see Yulia if she was back in Moscow this month.
--- Fan Meetings ---
There have been several small and big fan meetings, with or without the girls. European t.A.T.u. fans will celebrate this NYE in Amsterdam and the next fan meeting together with Lena (and maybe also Yulia) might take place in February or March in L.A. next year.
--- Waste Management Release – t.A.T.u.’s third English studio album ---
In October it was reported that t.A.T.u.’s management had concluded an agreement with a small Brazilian record company called Coqueiro Verde. This record company doesn’t seem to be very potent nor professional since local fans hardly got to see some promotion for it’s release at all. Even MTV Brazil didn’t announce the album’s release date which was and still is said to be December 15th in Brazil, Argentina and Chile despite the success of the video “White Robe” in their daily chart show. Last week it has been # 1. (You can watch the English version video for “White Robe” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3bCJ-rqkMw).
We don’t know if the physical album will be available in huge music stores in the mentioned three South American countries, but people will be able to order it from Brazil’s biggiest online store, for example.
“Waste Management” is not only the English or international version of “Happy Smiles”/”Veselye Ulibky” since three bonus remixes were added and all the songs were connected with interlupes produced by t.A.T.u.’s technical music director ("Transcendent Version").

In Russia “Waste Management” will be released with the help of the Russian record label Misteria Zvuka. There is no official date set yet, but rumours circled around December 17th even. The video for “White Robe” is also aired on smaller Russian music channels.
From December 15th, 2009 on you can order a copy at t.A.T.u.’s online shop if you have a credit card and enough money for the expensive postal costs: http://shop.taty.ru/en/goods/view/?id=458
In all the other countries you should be able to buy the MP3 version on Amazon and iTunes.
We want to thank you once again for your fidelity and interest. We wish you wonderful holidays and only the very best for 2010. Next year we will keep updating you irregularly if there is news concerning Lena, Yulia and t.A.T.u..

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
Okay guys.
In order to develop a t.A.T.u. fan montage/film in honour of t.A.T.u.'s ten year anniversary, I would like to ask everyone interested to come up with extraordinary, crazy, interesting questions YOU would like to be asked OR YOU would like to ask other fans that share their love for this Russian group with you.
--------------------------
Two examples:
1) General:
How did t.A.T.u. influence your life? In what extent did they change it?
OR
Have you ever met them? How was it? What did you feel?
OR
Why do you feel that t.A.T.u. are original?
2) Specific:
What point in t.A.T.u.'s history/career made you realize that the group changed too much for you to still be interested and support them as much as in the past? Why?
OR
Choose one of all music videos and explain a moment that made you aware of something unique, what has come to your mind?
OR
If you can remember some critical remarks you have read in blogs, articles or forums, did they change your way of thinking or how do you react to positive and negative remarks upon the band?
-------------------------
Feel free to add questions on this profile, even if you don't want to reply to any. I am simply gathering some input from you fans.
Thank you very much.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
We haven't written you in a while and the majority of you might already know most of what we have to tell you now.
t.A.T.u.'s management kept silent for a rather long time now and since rumours on different internet sources showed up and were reinforced by a fan who met Yulia when she was in L.A. in February, the producer and chief of the group, Boris Renski, thought it was necessary to already admit that t.A.T.u. won't work full-time anymore, but both girls will concentrate on solo (namely) singing careers.
We will try to present you as much information about t.A.T.u., Lena's as well as Yulia's solo projects only in summer again. Many things have been announced in the last couple of hours and many plans are being discussed and worked on.
One thing which is for sure though is that soon t.A.T.u.'s new music video for "Snegopady" is about to be released. It might be shown on Russian MTV, but check out tatu.ru and their YouTube channel in case they'll upload it there (around the beginning of April or even earlier). The movie "You and I" is about to be released at the end of this year or in early 2010, the same goes for the international album which will not be released as a physical CD but in a way or another - that is not clear at the moment.
I am asking you to send us gratitude notes you might want the girls to read just in case you wish. Send them to tatu@live.de and I will work on this in April. This little fan project is only the start for another one which we will tell you more about in summer and we need your help for that - especially at this moment I feel it might be good to work on a fan film that summarizes t.A.T.u.'s career and the fans' emotions. This, in case enough people are interested in supporting, will take us a longer while and might be finished only at the end of 2010.
1) Insider's Blog: t.A.T.u. forever on March 21st, 2009
The story so far, folks...
After the series of our fucked-up announcing of a number of tatuish "product" releases (clips, album) followed by delays, we have learned the lesson.
As you most probably have noticed, for some time past we don't do official statements/proclaims which would have been demolished by life, we tend to give less information but that of higher quality.
And lately we didn't give out any information at all.
Why?
For the reason there wasn't information suitable for publication.
And now, when foul gossips are emerging here and there, I'll tell you everything I definitely can.
I don't know where the yellow press got their news about "Yulia leaves t.A.T.u." from, but this time those news are not totally groundless.
Yulia does not leave t.A.T.u. but something did really happen.
And that's what it was:
Last December a "staff meeting" attended by Yulia, Lena and Boris took place. Parties had unanimously decided to cease the "operation of t.A.T.u. in full-time mode".
This decision was not spontaneous, it was long-grown.
For the sake of ethics I will not mention the reasons behind it, I'll just say that these have nothing to do neither with creative nor with economic aspects.
What is going to happen to t.A.T.u.?
First, we will close all our "open items", i.e. we'll release the third video as it was promised, at the end of March - beginning of April, girls will do their part in promo campaign for "You and I" movie, which is being late on schedule due to circumstances beyond our command, but which is to be released surely.
We'll also release a special long-play edition of "HS", with runtime more than an hour, for selling at t.A.T.u.-Shop only.
Especially for Amazon.com we are preparing another edition of "HS" cased in standard jewel-box. This edition will have slightly different artwork and a couple of bonus remixes.
Furthermore, the English version of Beliy Plaschik video is to be launched, and may be released on DVD.
Works on the full-scale international album "HS" and talks with record-labels were stopped at the end of 2008, but English versions of the majority of Russian songs are produced, and we will do our best to provide you with these, in one form or another.
Works on the show were suspended last June, and are not being planned.
No public concerts are being planned, except some special events like Bacardi.
Production of the new t.A.T.u.'s "goods" - videos, records - is still quite possible in the near future, but no promises can be made about schedule right now.
All t.A.T.u.'s Internet resources are going to stay operational in accordance with your interest and our effort.
What is going to happen to Yulia?
Yulia will deal with her life and career absolutely independently. At least without the t.A.T.u.'s management.
She traveled to Los Angeles without Lena, who stayed in Moscow those days.
On the 4-th of March Yulia, Boris and Sven met in LA studio to record English vocals for "220" ("Sparks").
Concerning all other Yulia's businesses in LA, I have not more idea than you do.
Yulia is quite free to share the details of evolutions of her solo career via t.A.T.u.'s information services, if she comes to such a wish.
We are positively not going to comment on all other bullshit or not bullshit which will come from external media.
What is going to happen to Lena?
Lena is starting her solo project with t.A.T.u.'s crew.
Yes, your arch-friend management in full team will now work not just for t.A.T.u. but for Lena also.
In the 20-s of April Lena, Renski, Sven, Troy, Steve and Domen are to meet in Los Angeles for pre-production.
Maybe they'll manage to record a clean copy of something.
Pre-production, for those who wasn't aware, means initial preparative procedures before recording. In our case, it's making demos, the base for future final things.
The project has already got its working name and Internet domain, but I will not give out this working name before it becomes official.
The site of the project is to be opened late in summer 2009.
What can I tell about the new project's music, for now: it will not be t.A.T.u., but a touch of tatuish spirit will certainly be still intact.
Sound will be live, main language - English (already foretasting a burst of criticism from Misterio for our abandoning the Russian language).
The first single/video is to be released in the second half of 2009 (it's impossible to tell more precisely).
Album - at the end of 2009 - beginning of 2010.
And this is it, for now.
Yours Insider.
2) Yulia to Russian fans on March 22nd, 2009
As Renski has written in contrast to Lena, Yulia decided to work on her solo projects without her current staff. She talked about her plans and intentions for the nearest future without any precise details that might not be existent even at this moment.
A summary of what she has said (big thanks to all the fans, especially Show Me Love and anneke and argos):
- She adores NYC and even more L.A. and wants to move to the USA permanently. She is about to apply for her visa. Especially for children Americans are great people.
- She was offered to act for some roles and she doesn't want to do anything other than sing and act
- She won't sing R'n'b style, rather will sound like t.A.T.u.
- Yulia will work together with American companies (/writers probably also) and aims at the Western audience. She might sing in English and Russian. She will produce herself, just will gather a team of PR managers and organizational managers to help her
- Yulia hasn't recorded any tracks yet, but is looking for some songs and she might also be working together with people who have been working for t.A.T.u. - but not Sergio Galoyan
- Yulia won't sing together with Lady GaGa of whom she hasn't heard of yet, she is not friends with Martin Kierszenbaum
- about t.A.T.u. she said that Lena and her have grown up, they aren't little girls anymore and it is necessary to develop further after all the years they have worked on this project
- She described her relation to Lena as friendly and that they keep in touch
- Yulia compares her situation with Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas
- She said that Lena and her will start to sing solo but they won't forget about t.A.T.u. and work on rare projects at the same time
- when fans asked about concerts, she said that there will be (talking about t.A.T.u.)
- Yulia has already said to the fan in L.A. that she will soon write a blog entry on tatu.ru
- She will just as Lena have her own website, www.tatu.ru will continue to exist also
- Yulia is ready to move forward
Since everything is still at it's beginning a lot can happen and much can be changed again. We will keep you updated in the summer!
Thanks you very much for your interest! We wish you a great spring and warmer feelings!

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
>>> t.A.T.u. to perform at the Russian MTV New Year Party
Last Wednesday, t.A.T.u.’s official website claimed that the girls were
headlining a concert show (Russian MTV New Year Party) of the most
successful Russian artists and participants of this year’s MTV Russian
Music Awards which is to take place in Moscow’s B1 Maximum Club this
Thursday (18th). Some uncertainties concerning this performance have
occured very recently since t.A.T.u.’s guitarist Troy MacCubbin stated
last Friday that he has just discovered he would play two shows with
t.A.T.u. in the upcoming two weeks. Yesterday he negated all this and
found out that he won’t be going to Moscow at all, he isn’t allowed to
say anything more, other than that it sucks. What is sure is that,
t.A.T.u.’s last live band performance for this year took place in
September 12th, long before their album was released. We will inform you next week whether the show will have taken place with t.A.T.u. and or not and if yes, how did it work out without the best part of a live
performance – the band.
(Thanks to Troy MacCubbin, Cute Lena and Max Franco)
>>> t.A.T.u. seem to co-operate with MTV Russia
t.A.T.u. and the rather lately appointed general director of MTV Russia
Aleksey Efimov discussed MTV’s status in a radio live show on “Radio
Echo Moskvy” on November 30th. The global phenomenon of almost all music channels was discussed using the example of MTV Russia – less music is aired, therefore more reality shows and advertisement, the level of played commercial and boring music clips. Interesting was that Efimov
and the girls stated to agree on the necessary changes MTV Russia has to undertake in order to improve the channel’s program and structure for
it’s employees and viewers. t.A.T.u. showed their respect to MTV Russia
because it was the only channel in 2000 which accepted to play the video for “Ya soshla s uma/All the things she said”. t.A.T.u.’s problems to be aired at MTV were also discussed. Their video for “220” was not suitable for the format MTV, it wouldn’t gather any ratings, the band was told earlier this year. Later on, MTV gave in and played “220”. t.A.T.u. were annoyed by the untalented groups and singers that were aired instead and sang badly and showed their panties at such a low level. Maybe they have forgotten that they started by performing and showing their panties as well or their recent video for “White Robe” in which they showed their breasts and Lena took off her clothes completely – just for the sake of the narrative as the girls say, of course. There might be differences though, but those haven’t been discussed at all. The girls said that t.A.T.u. have never ever paid anybody to be aired.
Yulia and Lena encouraged the director of MTV to make the channel and
the award shows much more interesting in the future to become the number one channel of music and ratings. Negotiations with Russia’s other important music channel MuzTV that aired the reality show “t.A.T.u. Expedition” in 2006 seem to be a bit more difficult at the moment. The girls complained that their arrival at the MTV Russia Music Awards was so much cut off at the live show, that Efimov promised to show the entire and creatively thought up entrance when the repetition of the show will be aired on December 31st. All in all this mutual meeting and talking on air might imply that MTV Russia will be willing to air
t.A.T.u.’s new videos which t.A.T.u. themselves want to offer in order
to help MTV become a better and pleasant music channel.
>>> t.A.T.u.’s album sales in Russia
As you might remember t.A.T.u.’s third studio album “Happy Smiles” was
released in Soyuz stores in Moscow and later on a few other shops on
October 21st. Due to it’s little distribution and even less promotion,
the album made it only to # 13 on a chart based on CD sales in big
Russian music stores in the first month after it’s release. Four other
Russian artists/groups that made their debut in the chart had better
positions. “Happy Smiles” therefore is as expected the worst selling
t.A.T.u. album. People who don’t know about it’s existence can hardly
buy it.
See the chart position on t.A.T.u.’s official blog:
http://blog.tatu.ru/Media/images/Billboard_Album_Sales_Chart_Oct_21_Nov_20_web.jpg
t.A.T.u. want to consider themselves indie and independent, but some
from their team might depend on the money they earn with their sold
copies. This might turn into a problem when they don’t start to promote
their album soon. Let alone to plan any public concerts or shows. A
project which is not successful and not lucrative just as MTV Russia has
been (see point 3)), needs to be changed or cannot exist much longer. I
repeat that t.A.T.u., who do not have an image anymore at all, stated a
few months ago that they wanted to conquer the world again and play in stadiums. Maybe the girls should communicate a bit more with their boss or management to see things a bit more realistic. I would like to
presume that the huge majority of people who have bought albums recently and who remember t.A.T.u. do so because of t.A.T.u.’s former success and not their current “indie status”, their nearly non-existence outside of their web presence. Boris Rensky who is lulling his entire staff and the girls as it seems, wanted to continue the difficult topic of the “Lyudi Invalidy” (Disabled People) also in the third album. The girls
themselves can only state it is about the wastes inside of us humans
when they are asked in the very few interviews they have. This is highly
non-format, non-commercial but if you should equally consider it
qualitative arthouse is another story. This experimenting on the tracks
goes so far as to fans stopping and skipping some of the songs because
one cannot enjoy the music or get easily bored of it. Listen to our
first t.A.T.u. Fan Podcast for some longtime fans’ opinions here:
http://www.tatuism.com/podcast/index.xml or on iTunes.
Read one of the few reviews of someone who liked their first and second
album (who has called it good and unique for its genre and with strong
lyrics) here, for example:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=28264
Trey Spencer:
“[...]So, when the girls revealed that the lesbian thing was simply an
image it gave them a great opportunity to showcase their music without
anything else getting in the way. Instead they’ve released an uninspired
collection of songs where they seem to simply be going through the
motions. The subtle experimentation, strong choruses and electronica
edge have almost entirely been tossed aside in favor of standard club
beats and bland vocal performances (...) Basically, after the beats
everything else is secondary including any attention to vocal melodies,
hooks or anything else. (...) The vocal performances are forgettable and
lackluster, and musically things have been stripped down to a bare
minimum [...]”
Even worse for t.A.T.u. that most people are only able to recall them as
a (pseudeo-)lesbian school girl band since the second album wasn’t so
much of a hit. The reviewer didn’t like reviewing this album because
this album is no fun for many people since it is almost without “... any
kind of fire or energy. [...] substance.” Everything that constituted
and distinguished t.A.T.u.’s first album has been dismissed. You can ask
people on the streets of Russia who used to play “Ya soshla s uma” and
“Nas ne dagonyat” in every car six and seven years ago and who had
posters hanging on their walls if they know about t.A.T.u.’s new album
and if yes, if they would play it today.
t.A.T.u. were able to cross borders and unite independ, libertarian,
tolerant and hopeful people all over the world.
Their new album is not able to unite anyone beyond rarely frequented
t.A.T.u. forums.
(To say the least, to visit one of the t.A.T.u. forums has turned out to
feel more and more lonely this year. You always see the same few users
and that doesn’t seem to be a good sign for an established band which
wants to celebrate a 10 year anniversary next year. Yulia and Lena must feel a bit confused to always see the same faces wherever they go or better say don’t go).

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
Exclusive Interview with Sergio Galoyan
(31.10.2008, 6 p.m. Moscow time)
Sergio Galoyan, songwriter and producer of: ATTSS, NGGU, 30 minutes, Show me love, Malchik Gay, Cosmos, Sacrifice, Perfect Enemy, Vsya Moya Lyubov and Marsianskiye Glaza.
----------------------------------------------------
A.: I read your blog and that the people changed your song title from “Hochu malchat”. Were you able to listen to the album?
S.G.: Not yet because it is released like one week ago and I still don’t have it. I don’t want to go and buy it because spending money on my own music... it’s kind of ridiculous. But I had a call from Boris saying that he’s going to send me a couple of copies in the next couple of days, so I am still waiting. I don’t have the album, but I heard the track (“Marsianskiye Glaza”). It was on the radio today in Moscow (Love Radio) and I love it. I’m satisfied with the mixing. So, it went out really well.
A.: So, you were also able to listen to a few other tracks?
S.G.: Just a couple of them. “Fly On The Wall” was the one I was listening to on the radio and I quite like it, but I still think that I do better sounds for these girls than other artists, if you know what I mean.
A.: It doesn’t really sound like t.A.T.u.. It’s a good song, but it’s something very different.
S.G.: Yeah, it’s a kind of different direction and I don’t know if you heard Valeriya’s album...
A.: Yeah, I heard not the entire album, but I really liked the album (what I have heard)... It was great.
S.G.: You know, I think t.A.T.u. need to go in this direction. But... they were acting kind of naughty not taking my songs and...
A.: Exactly, because last year you told me that you offered or that you had four songs prepared and now they only took one.
S.G.: Yeah, this time I actually showed them maybe ten or eleven songs and then they have chosen four and then they just took one. I don’t know why... But you know, I am happy for the girls that they release an album. I’ve heard that the album is like number 18 on iTunes at the moment?
A.: Yes, on the pop albums.
S.G.: Yeah, so it’s kind of cool. I’m happy to be a little, but still part of this.
A.: It was your initiative to offer them songs? It was not like that Boris was asking you to offer...
S.G.: No, one day, maybe almost two years ago, Boris called me and said: “Sergio, we are preparing a new album. Can you show us some songs?” And I said: “Yes, of course.” And I brought the whole CD, bunch of the tracks and ideas and stuff... and he took just one.
A.: What about the other songs and demos that you offered them? Will you use them for different projects like you did for Valeriya’s album?
S.G.: Yes, I have a girl band now. Two young, actually two very young like 18-year old girls. But this is not gonna be something like t.A.T.u., even though it’s two girls and my music. It’s a totally different direction. It’s just going to be my own project.
A.: Okay, but you can’t tell the name or is it still a secret?
S.G.: No, we’re still preparing.
A.: The band doesn’t have a name yet?
S.G.: No, we don’t have a name. But I let you know as soon as I will have finished a couple of tracks.
A.: But they are in Moscow?
S.G.: Yes, these are two Russian girls.
A.: Great. How was L.A.? You were on holidays?
S.G.: No, I actually went to L.A. to finish my other project. I’ve just finished an album for a guy called Arman. He sings like R’n’B. I don’t know, maybe I can play you a track, so you can probably hear... I did it as a music producer. I wrote only one song for him, but mainly it is a co-production with famous writers. It is really R’n’B and really commercial... (the track is playing)
So, as you can hear it is kind of R’n’B...
A.: Yeah, but it’s really good.
S.G.: Thank you. It’s nothing like t.A.T.u....
A.: No, of course, but I think it’s going to be successful, right?
S.G.: We’ll hope and I started another job which is a music producer, so I’m taking lots of projects at the moment.
A.: Great. So, you’re really busy?
S.G.: Yeah. So, I went to L.A. for three weeks. I was mixing this project. The guy called Matt Marion – he is a famous mixer, he got grammies and everything. So, I finished this project and had a couple of days of relaxation, driving the bicycle, just have fun on the beach.
A.: Cool. Can I go back to t.A.T.u. a little bit?
S.G.: Yes, sure.
A.: During the recording of the demos for the second album like you did with Lena in 2004 and with both girls in Los Angeles in 2005, you were working together in the same studio, right?
S.G.: Yes.
A.: And the fans want to know if it was the same this time, that you were together with Lena in the studio or were you separated?
S.G.: You know what’s funny. They just took the track. They took the multitrack and they did the whole thing themselves. So, I actually was not in the studio this time. They just took the chords and recorded vocals and mixed it in London. So, I was not seeing the girls in the studio... which is sad.
A.: I see. Because that leads me to another question: Some fans think that the lyrics don’t really quite live up to the character of the music. What do you think about the lyrics to “Hochu malchat”, well “Marsianskiye Glaza”, how it is called now?
S.G.: Let me think how to answer this.
A.: Because you didn’t know the lyrics when you were writing the song...
S.G.: No, I didn’t know the lyrics. But... you know it was quite political to not be involved in all this. Checking the lyrics... because... you know, I don’t want to tell bad things about the girls because I really much love them and Boris is a really nice guy, but ... I really don’t care about these lyrics. If you know what I mean.
A.: Okay, sure.
S.G.: And they are good lyrics, but they couldn’t come out with anything better and I’m glad that these are not the worst lyrics on the album.
A.: What do you think are the worst lyrics from the album if you say they are not the worst?
S.G.: I don’t know...
A.: You can’t tell...
S.G.: I got this idea from people sending me messages that my song is one of the best on the album, so I guess if this is one of the best, they have one of the worst...
A.: But this is just about the lyrics because they also include the typical bunny and squirrel lyrics... Well, the lyrics are a little bit abstract...
S.G.: Yeah, maybe it is good. If the lyrics are abstract, people can listen for the music which is a good thing.
A.: That’s a good thing for you, that’s true. It is obvious or apparent that t.A.T.u.’s music has changed. Do you think of it as a progress or a regress in comparison with the first album which was considered to have very innovative or new, fresh tracks?
S.G.: I personally think this is a regress because... let me think how to answer this... I definitely think this is a regress because they are not taking my songs and of course our world has known them only by a couple of singles, which were modern, which were “All the things she said” and “Not gonna get us”. And the second album was quite good, but not good enough because they weren’t shooting the videos to my tracks. Even though they had songs like “Sacrifice”, “Perfect Enemy” and “Cosmos”. They were shooting the videos to, for example, “Gomenasai” which is...
A.: Yeah, but they didn’t choose that.
S.G.: Yeah, I know and I understand because this is very repressive from the record company, but this album, I think, from the couple of tracks I heard, I mean they are a really nice pop direction. Really flat and without any scandals, but I like the old, the first album more because this was passion, this was good music, good lyrics, good videos. Everybody was so excited about this, that’s why we made it internationally and now they are making kind of solid pop and they make it good, but not good enough for me to be a fan of that product. Because I was a really big fan of the first album, of the second album, because I am not really into this kind of really pop music. I am not listening to, for example, Kylie Minogue or 50 Cent. I personally prefer interesting music like Radiohead and Metallica. All this interesting stuff, lots of electronic music. And I call this regress because they moved to really pop.
A.: So, it’s not that special anymore...
S.G.: Yeah, it’s not, at least for me. Maybe other people like it, but I am a separated person. I have my own taste and I’m not the biggest fan of this album, but I repeat, I was a big fan of the first and second album. Not only because they took my songs and anything...
A.: Yes, I understand. It’s the same for me basically. Because I think one of the problems is that their team has fallen apart after the first album. After listening to the third album I felt that they have many different kinds of styles, but that you can hardly recognize any style that combines all the songs, so it’s not really a “t.A.T.u.-thing” anymore.
S.G.: Yeah, that’s what I am talking about.
But I got good news for the fans. Basically, Valeriya’s album is doing quite good. We released a new single in the UK. With it we went to number three in the UK dance charts a couple of months ago. And I am preparing a really, really good new project with two girls. And I’m going to write the whole album and going to produce it and going to release it and will let you know for the fans of my songs. You’re gonna be surprised. It’s really cool.
S.G.: Yes.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
A.: Another question I have gathered from fans is that they heard that Yulia refused to sing songs written by Elena Kiper for the second album. Is that true? Do you know anything about that?
S.G.: Actually, I have never heard about that. Actually, I never heard why she was not involved. I don’t know. I’ve never heard the story. Never asked about her. We’re not big friends. I saw her for the last time maybe seven years ago, maybe five years ago. I don’t even know what she is doing know.
A.: I think she has also a few projects. She did something for Lolita in Russia which was quite successful, I think.
S.G.: Okay, I have never heard of that.
A.: Well, and if you listen to it, it’s really like a t.A.T.u.ish sound... like her project Nichya was also like that. t.A.T.u. fans liked it.
Another question for 2005. After you finished recording the second album in Los Angeles, you and Sasha (Tityanko), I don’t know, you were thrown out or decided to leave the project? What happened? Because you said you wanted to do something in London for artists because Sasha didn’t work for t.A.T.u. anymore after that.
S.G.: You mean my ex-wife? Yeah, actually, there was a really – again – a political situation because she was working for Boris and we kept our relationship a secret for a long time because I didn’t want her to lose her job and just a month before we went to L.A. and got married, we told the girls and Boris that we are dating and want to get married and we went to Los Angeles and suddenly it started to be really political because she was an employee of Boris Renski and I was at the same time a kind of another side and we didn’t have a contract. He was kind of upset that he cannot use her to get a better deal with me. And we were under big pressure, not including me and Sasha. Everybody was under big pressure from the record company. And the record company was under a big pressure from our side and this was a kind of mess and we were trying to record this album, we were spending two months in the studio without any progress because of a bad situation.
A.: Because of Yulia’s voice?
S.G.: Yeah, because of Yulia’s voice, because of pressure, because no one knew what to do and Sasha was under the biggest pressure of everyone because she was getting pressure from me, she was getting pressure from the girls, she was getting pressure from the record company, from Boris, from cab drivers. So, when we finished the album and went back to Moscow, she decided to leave the project and just be my wife. And that was actually quite cool. We got divorced a year ago. So, it was 2007 and we had a really happy marriage for two years. I still respect her. She’s a great woman. She works with Dima Bilan who won Eurovision. It is actually because of her, because she is so clever when choosing the songs and getting right people. And obvioulsy she got a good experience from 2005. She’s an amazing woman.
She left because of big pressure from every side.
A.: I see. But you two are still in contact now?
S.G.: We keep a little contact.
A.: Maybe the last question because you have already talked about your new projects which sound really great. What do you think can t.A.T.u. do to become a little more or popular again in Russia? What do you think?
S.G.: Let me think because this is an interesting question. Well, I think, the world knows them as modern girls with really, really good songs and now they are just cool girls with cool videos, but I think that everybody is going to agree with me that the songs are not as good as before. And if they choose better songs, if they listen to lots of new music and do something really good music-wise, really progressive and really modern, they will return, they will be famous again and respectful. So, it’s all about music.
A.: So, it’s not about promotion? Because they are not really in the media in Russia anymore...
S.G.: No, no, no. They are kind of big at the moment. They have a huge PR.
A.: But we don’t really see them in the news. In comparison to years like 2005, we hardly see them on TV or in the newspaper.
S.G.: I don’t agree because they were on the radio today. I was listening to the radio show...
A.: Well, yeah...
S.G.: They are doing lots of interviews for a new channel called Russia.ru.
A.: That’s true.
S.G.: Do you know this one?
A.: Yes, sure. It’s good, it’s a good idea.
S.G.: Considering that I am not watching TV whatsoever, never, not even news. I am hearing from them all the time.
A.: So, Zhenya is keeping in contact with you or who is it?
S.G.: No, I mean they’re on the radio, they’re on TV... or your question was who is keeping in contact with me? Dasha, I am speaking to Dasha.
A.: Ah, okay. What is actually her work field in t.A.T.u.? Is she a kind of press attaché also or does she do more like contact stuff?
S.G.: I don’t know. She’s just a nice girl.
A.: That’s true, of course.
S.G.: I think that she has replaced Sasha actually.
A.: Yeah, that’s true. Because she was working for Shapovalov before.
S.G.: Yes.
A.: Good. That was everything from me. If you want to ask me something or the fans, then I will give it away.
S.G.: Yes, because I am releasing lots of stuff at the moment. Can I give you some links to my new music because I started a DJ career. So, can I use the opportunity to show probably my fans or fans of t.A.T.u. my new music?
A.: Sure, I will include the links in the newsletter.
S.G.: We did a lot of shows with Kieron Pepper, the ex-drummer of Prodigy and I have just uploaded four demos of the songs that were released on the last (second) t.A.T.u. album, but in better quality and my singer Claire Guys is singing them.
A.: Are you still working with Claire?
S.G.: No, because I moved back to Moscow.
A.: She’s in London, right?
S.G.: Yeah, I miss her voice so much. She’s such an amazing singer. (sending the links)
So, I don’t know if you could include them? Is this fanclub only for Germany?
A.: No, my Scottish friend (-Jon-) developed the website http://www.tatuism.com and it is still small but we used the opportunity to create a newsletter (http://www.tatuism.com/newsletter.php) and we are trying to reach all the people we know and now we have over 200 subscribers and I will also publish the interview on the forums, so a lot of people will see it, I think. And we actually start a podcast this week (http://www.tatuism.com/podcast/index.xml), so some fans are talking about the new album and I will try to edit that tomorrow.
S.G.: Keep me updated, because I am really interested.
A.: Thank you so much! It was really nice. I am really happy that you are busy. It’s good because you have a great talent.
S.G.: Oh, thank you very much, Aileen. That’s really nice to hear it because now I have lots of messages from many fans, because I was not an internet guy before. I was not answering to any emails and now I bought a new notebook, a new Macbook Air and this is a new game for me to answer the questions. It’s really nice. I am up for it at the moment.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
t.A.T.u. were presenting and receiving an award at the MTV RMA’s last
Friday. Yulia and Lena arrived with a stunning act on the red carpet.
They were driven to the show with a truck (which reminds us of the video for "Not gonna get us", of course) which was covered with huge images of t.A.T.u.’s new album “Happy Smiles” and suddenly the truck opened, the music of “Veselye Ulibky” was heard and in a heap of steam two motorcycles from the movie “You and I” were driving out of the truck. Yulia and Lena each driving one of them. Hand in hand and with their helmets in their hands they walked as the first guests to the interviewers on the red carpet and greeted the fans. Yulia, who showed her shorter hair after having lived with extensions for many months, said cheerfully: “Hello everyone. We’re bored to walk on the red carpets with high heels, so we decided to drive on motorbikes. We are like that now. I embrace only Lena or the children.”
Even their bodyguards were wearing special brownish uniforms and a hat with t.A.T.u.’s “Waste Management” symbols.

t.A.T.u. Fan Podcast – October 2008
Part 1 (10 min): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEMTDWlzoN0
Part 2 (7 min): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSKxvzNJk54
tATuFanPodcast Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TatuFanPodcast
Last time you (Arnaudfrenchy, Eariel, Joost and t.A.T.u. songwriter Sergio Galoyan) talked about t.A.T.u.’s new album. This time I suggest a rather general approach to your love for t.A.T.u..
To take part,
1) you can ask me via email: tatu@live.de to have a short skype talk (I will record it)
OR
2) you can record your voice yourself and upload the recorded material to tatu@live.de
The deadline will be 4th of December, 2008 and without you taking part, we won’t be able to continue this work. Our last podcast on http://www.tatuism.com/podcast/index.xml or on iTunes http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=295672533 has already been listened to over 250 times.
The topic for the next episode (until Dec 4th) will include the following questions I would like to ask you:
- When did you become a fan? And why? Which song/album/video has made you become a t.A.T.u. fan in the beginning? What did you like best? Have you ever been proud of Yulia and Lena? Was there a special moment or event? Have you ever cried for t.A.T.u.? Have you ever met t.A.T.u. live and in concert? How was that? Tell us more about your feelings and impressions. If you are still a fan like you have been at the beginning or if not, why did it change and what is the best in your opinion to be a t.A.T.u. fan (community, fan meetings) etc.?
- Concerning the current t.A.T.u. – what do you like best? Do you enjoy their development, music-wise and image-wise? What do you feel should be improved in the t.A.T.u. camp? What do you wish them for the year 2009?
We are always glad to receive any improvement suggestions. Thank you very much.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
4) t.A.T.u. in the Ukraine
t.A.T.u. has finally confirmed that they will take part in the ceremony of the “Ukrainian Music Awards” in Donetsk this following Saturday, October 11th. Maybe their Poland experience might change their minds about the live singing. Let’s hope they will perform “You and I” since there won’t be any meaningless awards to pick up. The ceremony will take place at the Scherbakov Square and it will start at 6pm. If their PR team won’t be too busy smiling and filming and taking pictures they might have some promo interviews there as well for the upcoming album without mentioning a set release date yet. Sounds familiar, doesn’t sound professional.
5) Fan Insider talks about the t.A.T.u. fans’ relations to the management
t.A.T.u.’s management expect t.A.T.u. fans to vote for them (on sometimes even useless online votings), to request them at festivals (without having studied the applying methods), to change their myspace default pic for them, to travel miles to see them, to pay a lot of money for plane or train tickets to realize the show is cancelled a little too late.
After last week’s positive reading, we are slowly coming down again.
Teenage or older t.A.T.u. fans such as many fanatics in general would do a lot to see their idols, become a bit selfish maybe. Since t.A.T.u.’s management consists of more or less fans themselves, it is not hard even for those unprofessional people to realize what hardcore, happily-for-them-smiling-fans want. Candies such as the already mentioned meet ‘n greets, VIP tickets, backstage tickets, merchandise goodies, unreleased and new demo songs, movie screenings, paid trips, interns and job offers are given to fans who agree with big boss Renski and no one else. Sometimes other people decide less relevant issues, for example our photographer and docu film maker Zhenya will allow you in VIP zones, will announce you an official forum moderator – if you are nice, love what the management does and otherwise keep your mouth shut. The management buys fans – very few but active forum members. Same faces, same circle – t.A.T.u. might be able to learn the names of the few fans whom they see regularly at their few gigs – they would have enough time. The management has known them already for a long time, they see them on the forum everyday.
t.A.T.u. don’t like the Russian showbiz, they say but in order to earn some money they perform at private shows for rich, drunken and disinterested Russian bankers. Yeah, a wonder nobody gets to see them in public. Not every little club can afford to pay 50.000$ to see some former ex faux lesbians not even making out anymore but walking bored around the stage or blowing kisses to their husbands who wait for them to get off the stage again. This is nothing very new but the lacking success is becoming more than obvious and it hurts. Especially since the girls still have the looks, a bit of chemistry, a great band and music as well as music videos that are worth to be heard and watched worldwide. But Renski owns t.A.T.u. and he decides - uncompromisingly. Try it out and say goodbye to your job. So, little we can do to make them popular again. The big boss won’t change the direction nor the speed in which t.A.T.u are heading to their downfall.
t.A.T.u. and their team have been living in a pink cheese cover without any contact to the external world for years already. No media partners, no international record label deal, no structured plans, no professional attitudes, no promotion, no success – but zero media exposure, frustrated fans and cancelled shows. Doesn’t sound as if it was appealing, does it? t.A.T.u. have no shows planned and aren’t invited to any at the moment – be good to yourself and don’t expect them to come to your country. They weren’t able to tour their home country at the moment.
Lena and Yulia trust or believe in their team or rather don’t care about what they do, but they are dreaming of becoming famous again – secretly but yes that’s their aim, their need. Not little but funny people.
If your voice is broken, better go and have it checked.
If you have a performance, you might want to rehearse a bit.
If your pronounciation of a foreign language isn’t the best but you want to sing in it nevertheless (to become successful in the States, Volkova), you could practise it.
If you are a singer, you may try and sing regularly.
If you know you’re gonna be on TV, you might want to think about something exciting you can do on stage, something better than singing unknown and unlucky songs, walking around the stage slowly and stretching out your microphone to get a zero response from the audience.
If you are a professional, act like one – all the time, also when you do mistakes.
It is not sufficient to trace your non-existing eyebrows, to pin up your fake hair, to keep yourself skinny, to stick on some fake eyelashes, to get your lips done, to colour yourself in paint in order to conserve the outer aura of a star, a celebrity IF you aren’t one anymore.
(A good sign that Volkova smashed the Polish Comet awards to the floor, she finally seems to foresee t.A.T.u.’s future rather realistically; one might assume.)
If you can remember or visualize images from the past (2001 – 2003 and still a bit 2005 – 2006) when t.A.T.u. were able to make the crowd scream their names, their lyrics – back then their saying “we exchange energy with the audience” was true. Remember t.A.T.u.’s biggest highlight in showbiz? The MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, in 2003? If not, youtube it.
Today the few pleonastic, always same t.A.T.u. fans need to scream out their hearts to make some noise. Today it is one fan that is obliged to cheer and applaud for 20 bored, reserved people standing in the audience, not only at general award shows but on bigger t.A.T.u. concert gigs as well. How shall the fans know the lyrics if they never ever get to hear them by accident besides and only when they are concentrated on their fav band anyway? One fan buying 20 of their albums doesn’t make it look as if 20 people were informed about the release.
See them holding hands and waiting for their own song to end to take off their rain coats, might be exciting for these few remaining hardcore fans but probably not for the masses which do decide about a band being a secret underground project (Renski might call this vision polar art) or something t.A.T.u. have reached at the beginning of their career – a successful, requested worldwide pop band. With every day t.A.T.u. loses fans, media interest and nothing that the management can or is willing to reverse that driven in flow.
If you want to talk about t.A.T.u.’s current problems and want to get inspired by great and open minded people, enter our chat room from 6-11pm GMT every day. (No registration is required, just enter your name and start chatting).

t.A.T.u. has finally confirmed that they will take part in the ceremony of the “Ukrainian Music Awards” in Donetsk this following Saturday, October 11th.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
1) Lena Katina has turned 24. Happy Birthday!
2) A performance got lost
3) t.A.T.u. headlining at the Polish VIVA Comet Awards
4) t.A.T.u. in the Ukraine
5) Fan Insider talks about the t.A.T.u. fans’ relations to the management
1) Lena Katina has turned 24. Happy Birthday!
Lena Katina celebrated her birthday (October 4th) together with Yulia and some of t.A.T.u.’s management in Poland this year. After Lena has already turned 18 while visiting a Big Brother flat in Warsaw in 2002, this year t.A.T.u. were having a photoshoot for the Polish music channel Viva Polska that presented a birthday cake to the redhead. In a short radio interview with Russia’s Love Radio Lena stated that she was happy to have Yulia and her staff around, they might drink a glass of wine and the rest of the congratulations will follow when she will have arrived back in Moscow.
Yulia congratulated Lena via a Radio Love message: “Dear Lena, I madly love you. You are my guardian angel. I wish that you will be very lucky and beautiful for your entire life. I wish you happiness with your family and loved one. That you’ll always be surrounded by love. I will always be with you.”
2) A performance got lost
t.A.T.u. performed in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt on May 5th, 2008. An Egyptian fan once told me that the show was recorded by a camera team for a music channel and now we know that the show has already been aired without anyone being active on the big forums noticing it in time. Since we have a few Egyptian readers, I ask you or everybody to send a requesting mail to the Egyptian channel to repeat the show once again, only if you do care of course. The channel who aired the show is called MAZZIKA TV and you can send notifications on the following website: http://www.alamelphan.com/contactus/
3) t.A.T.u. headlining the Polish VIVA Comet Awards
Last Thursday t.A.T.u. have started their little promotional tour (for the upcoming Russian album without mentioning a release date?) in Poland, the country in which they are sometimes still mentioned on a few online papers. At the VIVA Comet Awards they were singing White Robe, 220 and All the things she said – live (unfortunately) and without their band (would have been too expensive to fly them in for a nine minute appearance). As headliners you mostly perform at the beginning or at the end of the show. It must have been a bit strange to let the girls perform last since they haven’t been in Poland for over six years at all! No wonder that the crowd was bored and a part of them leaving when t.A.T.u. tried to perform their songs. Since “Beliy Plashik” (since a few Polish might have known the Russian version, we ask ourselves why they sang in their rather bad English then) and “220” were quite popluar in the Polish music channel rankings, VIVA Polska wanted to be polite and presented the not nominated t.A.T.u. with an extra special award just for them. No wonder that Volkova hasn’t hesitated long and threw both of their Comet balls soon the floor/into the crowd after they received them. Yulia and Lena weren’t able to keep any of their important awards why bother taking those gifts back home if you have tons of make up in your luggage.
This has been t.A.T.u.’s first TV performance since December 2006 when they were singing All about us in Russia’s Best song of the year. Congratulations!
Fans who had a short meet ‘n greet with the girls (nice fans of course, critical ones are not so very welcome) reported that the girls had much more fun on stage during their rehearsal. The singing was better and Yulia even approached and teased to kiss Lena during the All the things she said break. We are glad to see at least one of them remembering why they got famous in the first place – only when they are at work abroad and not so much surrounded by boyfriends of course.

Russia's duo t.A.T.u.
Hey everyone,
thanks for your continuous support. I am very happy for that.
Since it seems that t.A.T.u. might release their Russian album soon in Russia, they will need all possible help in different online votings, mainly in Russian.
I will try to post opportunities to support them here as well as info concerning the album/performanes... of course.
But to be sure to reach you, I repeatedly would like to ask you to send me an empty email to tatu@live.de, so I can keep in touch with you. This is not for any other reason than supporting t.A.T.u. and informing you. Thank you so much.
Best wishes,
Aileen

While their team is still busy planning the release of the third Russian album (which might be released in Russia on Sept 2nd) you can help and support t.A.T.u..

But we can do and should vote for Yulia Volkova, too. Here is the simple explanation of how that works and beneath you'll find the links.
Go to the following links and fill in the four colourful numbers and press ENTER. You can vote unlimited times and please do it as often as you can, especially for Yulia whose name was entered correctly only now and she is #47 at the given moment.
