First, learn the basics of TCP/IP and other networking protocols such as FTP and Telnet. Then, getting some programming knowledge is a MUST. If you know some Java, you already have a headstart for C/C++ (once you know a language, the others are easier to understand and learn). www.cplusplus.com

Get familiar with Linux systems (shells, privilege levels, scripting, etc.) ... You could start by downloading a Free CD of Ubuntu linux. It is 100% free and you can run it as a LiveCD, without installing it and altering your windows system. :)

Finally, learn some basic concepts such as "Denial of Service", "Buffer Overflow", "SQL injection", "Remote File Inclusion"... you can find the definitions on google or wikipedia.
